*From the Heart of the Baztán Valley*
This week, while reading _Diario de Navarra_ on May 27, 2026, two pieces of news from the Baztán Valley, País del Bidasoa, filled me with hope and pride.
On page 30 of the _Zona Norte_ section, the newspaper reports that Baztán will register tourist accommodations to regulate the activity. Rural houses, apartments, hotels, and other establishments will have until September 15 to register with the municipal registry.
This is an important measure to prevent overcrowding, protect the landscape, and promote sustainable, orderly tourism. The valley has more than 2,000 tourist beds, making it one of the areas with the highest offer per inhabitant in Europe, especially in the quarters of Erratzu, Amaiu, Arizkun, and Azpilkueta.
Alongside this news, the headline I celebrate wholeheartedly:
*Baztán-Bidasoa, national award for a project against gender-based violence*
The Baztán Town Council, together with the municipal associations of Bortziriak and Malerreka, has received an important recognition in the 10th edition of the Contest for Local Good Practices against Violence against Women (2025-2026). The project combines stable psycho-educational and music-therapeutic support aimed at women victims and survivors of gender-based violence, with special sensitivity to the rural reality. Congratulations, Baztán! Zorionak Bidasoa, Malerreka, and Bortziri!
This award is great news and a firm step in the fight against a serious problem with many facets: economic, social, psychological, and, as we know well, also deep on the emotional and spiritual level.
I have heard many friends in different countries share their experiences. Messages that still hurt: “if my husband finds out he’ll kill me,” control, jealousy, fear…
That violence which often operates in the background, limiting freedom and free will. That’s why I celebrate concrete initiatives like this one, which not only denounce but also accompany, repair, and empower. Following voices like journalist Cristina Fallarás, who raises awareness, educates, and generates consciousness in Spain and Ibero-America, is key.
*Women who earn, women who free themselves*
As Shakira says: women earn money. That is one of the fastest and most effective paths to autonomy and dignity. In a valley as beautiful and full of potential as Baztán, women can lead ventures in:
- Rural accommodations with soul
- Local gastronomy and km 0 products
- Crafts
- Nature and cultural experiences
- Organic farming, livestock, art restoration, ceramics, painting, photography, etc.
Entrepreneurship doesn’t solve everything, but it generates economic independence, strengthens self-esteem, and changes dynamics of dependence.
*Toward a future with less “soul-phobia”*
I firmly believe in a future of peace, unity, and respect among people of any gender, people, or condition.
The biggest phobia I observe is _soul-phobia_: that envy, irrational jealousy, that inexplicable rage toward the other simply because “I don’t like them.” Misunderstood competitiveness of “naked apes,” as Desmond Morris said.
But I also believe in our capacity to evolve and improve.
For all this, I publicly congratulate the Baztán Town Council, its residents, and everyone who has driven this award-winning project.
I send a big hug to all my friends (and friends) who are going through or have gone through difficult situations of control or violence.
You are not alone. There are networks, brave journalists, institutions that reward good practices, and above all, growing awareness.
Women of Baztán, women of the world: keep shining, keep earning, keep being free.

*Baztan Bailararen Bihotzetik*
Aste honetan, 2026ko maiatzaren 27ko _Diario de Navarra_ irakurtzen ari nintzela, bi albistek Baztan Bailaran, Bidasoa Herrian, itxaropenez eta harrotasunez bete ninduten.
Iparraldeko Atalaren 30. orrialdean, egunkariak jakinarazi du Baztanek ostatu turistikoak erregistratuko dituela jarduera antolatzeko. Landa-etxeek, apartamentuek, hotelek eta beste establezimenduek irailaren 15era arte izango dute udal erregistroan izena emateko.
Neurri garrantzitsua da masifikazioa saihesteko, paisaia babesteko eta turismo jasangarri eta antolatua sustatzeko. Bailarak 2.000 turista-plaza baino gehiago ditu, eta biztanleko eskaintza handiena duen lurraldeetako bat da Europan, batez ere Erratzu, Amaiu, Arizkun eta Azpilkuetako kuarteletan.
Albiste honekin batera, bihotz-bihotzetik ospatzen dudan titularra:

Baztango Udalak, Bortziriak eta Malerrekako mankomunitateekin batera, aintzatespen garrantzitsua jaso du Emakumeen aurkako Indarkeriaren aurkako Tokiko Praktika Onen Lehiaketaren X. edizioan (2025-2026). Proiektuak laguntza egonkor psikohezitzailea eta musikoterapeutikoa konbinatzen ditu indarkeria matxistaren biktima eta bizirik atera diren emakumeentzat, landa-errealitatearekiko sentikortasun bereziarekin. Zorionak, Baztan! Zorionak Bidasoa, Malerreka eta Bortziri!
Sari hau albiste bikaina da eta arazo larri baten aurkako borrokan urrats irmoa, hainbat ertz dituena: ekonomikoa, soziala, psikologikoa eta, ondo dakigunez, sakona emozioen eta espirituaren planoan ere.
Munduko hainbat herrialdetako lagun askori entzun diet beren esperientziak partekatzen. Oraindik min ematen duten mezuak: “nire senarrak jakiten badu hil egingo nau”, kontrola, jelosia, beldurra…
Askotan bigarren planoan diharduen indarkeria hori, askatasuna eta borondate askea mugatzen dituena. Horregatik ospatzen ditut halako ekimen zehatzak, salatzeaz gain laguntzen, konpontzen eta ahalduntzen dutenak. Cristina Fallarás kazetariaren moduko ahotsak jarraitzea funtsezkoa da, Espainian eta Iberoamerikan sentsibilizatzen, hezten eta kontzientzia sortzen duena.
*Fakturatzen duten emakumeak, askatzen diren emakumeak*
Shakirak dioen bezala: emakumeek fakturatzen dute. Hori da autonomiarako eta duintasunerako biderik azkarrenetako eta eraginkorrenetako bat. Baztan bezain ederra eta potentzial handiko bailara batean, emakumeek ekintzailetzak gidatu ditzakete:
- Arima duten landa-ostatuekin
- Tokiko gastronomiarekin eta 0 km-ko produktuekin
- Eskulanekin
- Natura eta kultur esperientziekin
- Nekazaritza ekologikoarekin, abeltzaintzarekin, artearen zaharberritzearekin, zeramikarekin, pinturarekin, argazkigintzarekin, etab.
Ekintzailetzak ez du dena konpontzen, baina independentzia ekonomikoa sortzen du, autoestimua indartzen du eta mendekotasun-dinamikak aldatzen ditu.
*“Arima-fobia” gutxiagoko etorkizun baterantz*
Bihotzez sinesten dut edozein genero, herri edo baldintzatako pertsonen arteko bake, batasun eta errespetuzko etorkizunean.
Ikusten dudan fobiarik handiena _arima-fobia_ da: inbidia hori, jelosia irrazional hori, bestearenganako haserre ulertezin hori, besterik gabe “ez zaidalako gustatzen”. Gaizki ulertutako lehiakortasuna, Desmond Morrisek zioen bezala, “tximino biluzien” lehiakortasuna.
Baina gure gaitasunean ere sinesten dut eboluzionatzeko eta hobetzeko.
Hori dela eta, publikoki zoriontzen dut Baztango Udala, bere herritarrak, eta saritutako proiektu hau bultzatu duten guztiak.
Besarkada handi bat bidaltzen diet kontrol edo indarkeria egoera zailak pasatzen ari diren edo pasa dituzten lagun guztiei.
Ez zaudete bakarrik. Sareak daude, kazetari ausartak, praktika onak saritzen dituzten erakundeak eta, batez ere, gero eta kontzientzia handiagoa.
Baztango emakumeok, munduko emakumeok: jarrai ezazue distira egiten, fakturatzen, aske izaten.

Desde el corazón del Valle de Baztán
Esta semana, mientras leía el Diario de Navarra del 27 de mayo de 2026, dos noticias del valle de Baztán País del Bidasoa...
me llenaron de esperanza y orgullo.
En la página 30 de la sección Zona Norte, el periódico informa que Baztán registrará los alojamientos turísticos para ordenar la actividad. Casas rurales, apartamentos, hoteles y otros establecimientos tendrán hasta el 15 de septiembre para inscribirse en el registro municipal.
Se trata de una medida importante para evitar la masificación, proteger el paisaje y promover un turismo sostenible y ordenado. El valle cuenta con más de 2.000 plazas turísticas, siendo uno de los territorios con mayor oferta por habitante de Europa, especialmente en los cuarteles de Erratzu, Amaiu, Arizkun y Azpilkueta.
Junto a esta noticia, el titular que celebro con todo el corazón:
El Ayuntamiento de Baztán, junto a los mancomunados de Bortziriak y Malerreka, ha recibido un importante reconocimiento en la X edición del Concurso de Buenas Prácticas Locales contra la Violencia sobre las Mujeres (2025-2026). El proyecto combina apoyo estable, psicoeducativo y musicoterapéutico dirigido a mujeres víctimas y sobrevivientes de violencia machista, con especial sensibilidad a la realidad rural.¡Enhorabuena, Baztán! ¡Zorionak Bidasoa, Malerreka y Bortziri!
Baztán-Bidasoa, premio nacional por un proyecto contra la violencia machista
Este premio es una gran noticia y un paso firme en la lucha contra un problema grave que tiene múltiples aristas: económica, social, psicológica y, como bien sabemos, también profunda en el plano emocional y del espíritu.
He escuchado a muchas amigas en diferentes países del mundo compartir sus experiencias. Mensajes que todavía duelen: “si mi esposo se entera me mata”, el control, los celos, los miedos…
Esa violencia que muchas veces opera en segundo plano, limitando la libertad y el libre albedrío.Por eso celebro iniciativas concretas como esta, que no solo denuncian, sino que acompañan, reparan y empoderan. Seguir voces como la de la periodista Cristina Fallarás, que en España y en Iberoamérica sensibiliza, educa y genera conciencia, es clave.
Mujeres que facturan, mujeres que se liberan
Como dice Shakira: las mujeres facturan. Esa es una de las vías más rápidas y efectivas hacia la autonomía y la dignidad. En un valle tan bello y con tanto potencial como Baztán, las mujeres pueden liderar emprendimientos en:
- Alojamientos rurales con alma
- Gastronomía local y productos de km 0
- Artesanías
- Experiencias de naturaleza y cultura
- Agricultura ecológica, ganadería, restauración artística, cerámica, pintura, fotografía, etc.
Hacia un futuro con menos “alma-fobia”
Creo firmemente en un futuro de paz, unión y respeto entre personas de cualquier género, pueblo o condición.
La mayor fobia que observo es la alma-fobia: esa envidia, ese celo irracional, esa rabia inexplicable hacia el otro simplemente porque “le cae mal”. Competitividad mal entendida de “monos desnudos”, como decía Desmond Morris.
Pero también creo en nuestra capacidad de evolucionar y mejorar.
Por todo ello, felicito públicamente al Ayuntamiento de Baztán, a sus vecinos y vecinas, y a todos los que han impulsado este proyecto premiado.
Mando un abrazo grande a todas mis amigas (y amigos) que están pasando o han pasado por situaciones difíciles de control o violencia.
No estáis solas. Hay redes, hay periodistas valientes, hay instituciones que premian las buenas prácticas y, sobre todo, hay cada vez más conciencia.
Mujeres de Baztán, mujeres del mundo: seguid brillando, seguid facturando, seguid siendo libres.
